Cherry Moon

I’ve been poking around a blog called MOOVMNT.com lately that my buddy Fundament showed me awhile back, and I stumbled across some music from an artist named Lorn; this shit is fantastic. I had a whole bunch of nebulous thoughts drifting around while listening through his tracks, and decided I’d just throw it all together and see how it blended. For more from Lorn and the rest of the talented guys he runs with, check out the Brainfeeder site and show love!

Anyways, here’s what I came up with, I hope a few of you enjoy it:

Cherry Moon

It’s just the sky’s fallin’ down an I can’t see the stars/
Dreamin’ hard, I’m fallin’ on my face, an yea, it’s leavin’ scars/
Breathin’, hyper-ventilated, veins runnin’ thick/
I will always chase that little bit that made ya body fit/

So the, fallin’ sensation I’m gettin’ settles down/
But I’m livin’ in a life, heavy, with a thousand pounds/
Get it, I put it on my back, I’ll drag it outta town/
But don’t ask me why I never smile when you come around/

Shit, I got a lot of things I’m chasin’ in the wind/
The end it’s comin’ in, but I forget where I begin/
So I, settle up, and put my debts out on the table/
Drug-ridden, with an angel, body poppin’ out of labels/

She smiles at me and I take it in, soft as sin/
Open-mouth, gaspin’ out, sweaty arms I’m layin’ in/
Fall asleep, wake up in a daze, piff before I leave/
See I gotta get away, because this shit is what I breathe/

It’s only little pieces that I’m missin’ in the night/
I’m thinkin’ of my cousin’s loss, an wishin’ I could make it right/
I never asked for nothin’, and I hold all that I am/
Tough, hardened in my heart, but still a weaker man than him/

See my face for what it’s worth, not what you make it out to be/
I’m trippin’ on it hard, I feel like flyin’ from a balcony/
I’m out to sea, floatin’, on an ocean made of sand/
Skin burnin’ in the sun, left a million miles from land-/

Scapes of memories, mountains of the lost, forgotten-/
Out-of-breath-smiles, hand-holdin’ in the dark compartment/
That I keep it, ask me but I’m probably sleepin’ now/
I’m not driftin’ off for long, but maybe for a little while/

See you, when I return, in the shadow of a cherry moon/
Sunset strikin’ red colours, sinkin’ very soon/
…on horizons purple streaks an orange tips/
We’ll sit and fade the day away, a smile on our lips/
I Promise…/

No chorus, just straight through, hope you guys like it.

I’m Ready

I heard Alicia Key’s original and came up with a wicked concept to run with it as a hip hop track… about 4 hours later I had this. Respect and love completely to Alicia Keys and Drake for this song, they provided me with the perfect canvas to paint upon.

I'm Ready

VERSE 1:
She saw me before I saw her in the distance/
A wave and a jump in her step, her voice lifted/
She’s shoutin’ my name, I get mixed feelin’s/
My heart hits the floor, but it’s rate hits the cielin’/

I can’t help but smile though, I miss her/
It’s been a little while since we chilled, so I kiss her/
Just on the cheek, in affection for memories/
Places we’ve been together, it’s all a blend to me/

Always a friend to me, I won’t forgot it fast/
Let it last, in the past but all of it was meant to be/
And so eventually, maybe we will meet again/
In a different crowded setting, maybe with the same friends/

And we can collect our thoughts and our lifeline/
Lived from the point that we left off the last time/
And maybe not now, but if it’s made to be/
This is what she’d say to me…/

CHORUS:
I was wondering maybe, could I make you my baby/
If we do the un-thinkable…/
Would it make us look crazy?/
If you ask me I’m ready/
If you ask me I’m ready…/

VERSE 2:
An I got to see her in the summer past/
Her hair in her eyes, with her cute little laugh/
Reflections of my smiles in her sun-glasses/
Chilled for a bit, had a chat bought the past/

She laid her hand on my arm as the day faded/
I was elated, I had it all, I gave in/
We sat for awhile, the crickets settin’ in/
Quiet conversation about the places we had been/

Her head settlin’ on my shoulder, I told her/
I felt that I’d gain some perspective, I’m older/
And maybe we had always overlooked what it was/
That brought us back talkin’ again, just because/

There was a past, it’s colourful, I know/
But I’m sayin’ I’m seein’ the places that I think we’d go/
Now she looked, smile nervously, eyes sparkle heavenly/
And this what she said to me…/

CHORUS:
I was wondering maybe, could I make you my baby/
If we do the un-thinkable…/
Would it make us look crazy?/
Or would it be so beautiful/
Either way I’m sayin…/
If you ask me I’m ready/
If you ask me I’m ready…/

BRIDGE:
And yes it might fall down, the scars from before/
We’re both too afraid to make it hurt more/
An even though it works, we’ll be lookin’ for the reason/
Half open doors, just ready to be leavin’/

Each time it’s harder, an makes shit worse/
Love for the sake of itself but it hurts/
Just let it go, so I leave it behind me/
But if it’s real then remind me…/

CHORUS:
I was wondering maybe, could I make you my baby/
If we do the un-thinkable…/
Would it make us look crazy?/
Or would it be so beautiful/
Either way I’m sayin…/
If you ask me I’m ready/
If you ask me I’m ready…/

Enjoy, thanks again guys!

Playing Catch Up

Wow! So it’s been awhile eh? Sorry guys…

I’ve been ridiculously busy with all the boring, regular-guy-life stuff that can catch up to you if you let it. I’ve been working full-time and preparing the house I’ve been living in with my family for 16 years to be sold, and now we’re making a big move out to Port Union. Terribly exciting isn’t it? Not really…

Anyways, through all of this there have been some musical and other artistic developments; so I’m going to attempt to catch you guys up on what I’ve been doing lately:

Firstly, I’m still working through “A Bit Of Me” – it’s not quite what I’d call “nearing completion” but it’s coming along. I’m a perfectionist, and trying to find the tone and everything I want is proving to be a bit difficult. I’m aiming for an end-of-summer or early fall release, but I’ll keep you posted as things continue to progress.

I’ve also been working on a few different projects other than my own album. I’ve been recording with the beautiful Ms. Lizzie Lyon whenever I get a chance, and I honestly can’t wait to show you guys some of what we’re coming up with! Hopefully by end of summer we’ll have something concrete to let everyone hear.

I’ve also been working closely with MCs Fundament and Muneshine; I was lucky enough to be invited to produce two songs for Muneshine’s up-coming album, and also produce a little mixtape single for them recently as well, check it out:

Maybe Tomorrow

As well, I recently spent a bunch of time working with my good friend, and talented MC, Matthew Cuesta. I recorded a whole pile of tracks with him, including “I Need Dollars” with me on the production tip:

You can also find a whole bunch of his recently recorded material here, and make sure to check out his Facebook Fan Page.

There’s much more in the works as well… but that’s it for now! Thanks again for the support guys!

Lookin’ Away

“…lookin away, I can see them in the rear view, clear view, that means see through/
got me doin things funny, actin wierd dude/
So who the hell want it? just go ahead take it/
SDR wont make it man we even lost the basement/
Im thinkin great, damn skippy, fuck it/
Ill leave this place and wont wonder if they miss me/
shit they’d prolly diss me, blow me kisses from far away/
gettin close to em never stopped seeming risky/
till they called the clan sissys/
now we have to show em iron palms an metal fists/
stone grips like a gargoyle and have us all feelin shitty…/”

A better man with words than myself sometimes.
